SOK NGINGGRIS
"Cak, sampeyan itu kalau nulis kok sering dicampur-campur dengan bahasa Inggris. Ben gaya tah…?!" seorang teman bertanya dengan nada menggoda.
Ini bukan pertanyaan dan 'gugatan' pertama. Sebelum ini beberapa teman juga sudah mempertanyakan dan menggugat tulisan saya yang dicampur-campur dengan bahasa Inggris. Koyok arek Jaksel ae sing senenange wicas-wicis…
Kadang-kadang repot juga saya menjawabnya… Soalnya saya sangat mendukung upaya untuk menggunakan bahasa Indonesia yang benar dan baku. Tapi itu kalau kita berkomunikasi dalam forum resmi. Dalam forum resmi dan tulisan artikel serius maka bahasa yang digunakan juga harus menggunakan bahasa Indonesia yang benar dan baku. Masalahnya kan saya ini menulis dalam suasana informal. Jadi saya tidak melihat pentingnya dan wajibnya seseorang menggunakan bahasa Indonesia yang resmi, benar, dan baku.. Dalam menulis saya lebih mementingkan aspek komunikasinya. Yang penting apa yang ada dalam benak saya bisa keluar dengan lancar terserah mau keluar dalam bahasa apa. Tujuannya adalah saya bisa menulisnya dengan lancar dan yang membaca juga menerimanya dengan mudah dan nyaman.
Lalu mengapa sih saya harus mencampur-campur tulisan saya dengan bahasa Inggris? Sebetulnya saya itu nulis berdasarkan apa yang keluar dalam benak saya. Karena saya dulunya adalah guru bahasa Inggris selama puluhan tahun dan dulunya pernah harus berkomunikasi dengan siswa saya dalam bahasa Inggris (di sekolah internasional), dan yang terutama adalah juga karena banyak membaca artikel dan buku berbahasa Inggris, maka benak saya juga berpikir dalam bahasa Inggris. Kita berpikir dalam sistem bahasa yang kita gunakan. Dan ketika memikirkan sesuatu dalam benak kita seringkali benak kita itu 'tidak tertib berbahasa'. Benak kita itu 'tertib berpikir' tapi dia tidak membatasi dirinya untuk hanya berpikir dalam satu bahasa tertentu. Jika kita menguasai dan menggunakan beberapa bahasa sekaligus maka benak kita juga akan berpikir dalam bahasa-bahasa tersebut. Benak kita akan menyodorkan istilah, diksi, kosakata, dan kalimat yang paling mencerminkan atau mempresentasikan apa yang sedang kita pikirkan dan akan kita sampaikan. Ada beberapa ekspresi yang dalam benak kita hanya cocok diekspresikan dalam istilah, diksi, kosa kata dan kalimat tertentu. Sampai sekarang saya kesulitan untuk menggantikan ekspresi kata 'Touche…!' dalam bahasa Prancis yang tidak pernah saya pelajari apalagi mengerti. Tapi saya menyerap ekspresi kata 'touche' tersebut dalam konteks bacaan saya dan seterusnya dia nyantol dan juga keluar dalam bentuk ekspresi yang sesuai dengan konteksnya.
Mengapa saya tidak menggunakan kata 'Pas banget…!' atau 'Kena banget…!' atau 'Mak jleb…!' yang artinya kira-kira setara dengan kata 'touche'? Karena kata 'touche' sudah lebih dulu masuk ke benak saya dan saya sudah merasa nyaman menggunakannya. Kata 'mak jleb' malah terasa konyol banget bagi saya sehingga saya mungkin tidak akan pernah mau untuk menggunakannya.
Selain bahasa Inggris, saya juga berpikir dalam bahasa Jawa (Suroboyoan mostly), bahasa Bugis (yang saya pelajari dari ortu saya), sedikit menyerap kosa kata bahasa Madura (dari para tetangga 'reng-oreng Medure' di Surabaya), Sunda, Banjar, tapi tentu saja yang paling dominan adalah bahasa Indonesia. Meski pernah belajar bahasa Jerman empat semester (minor yang saya ambil waktu di kampus dulu) tapi karena tidak pernah lagi terpapar dengan bahasa ini maka ia dengan segera menguap dari benak saya. Ich habe alles vergessen… Karena tinggal di Surabaya maka kosa kata dan ekspresi Suroboyoan jelas sering sekali muncul dalam tulisan saya. Bahasa Suroboyoan itu sangat khas, unik, lucu, dan egaliter. Ekspresi 'Cuk' itu semacam sambel untuk menemani tahu dan tempe. Sungguh cemplang rasanya makan tahu dan tempe tanpa dicocolkan ke sambel. Begitu juga arek Suroboyo. Kalau mereka ngobrol dengan teman-temannya maka kata 'Cuk' berhamburan dalam setiap kalimatnya.
' Enak iki, cuk…!'
'Luwih enak iki, cuk…!
'Nyobak sithik opo'o, cuk…!
'Njukuko dewe opo'o, cuk. Aku mek njukuk sithik iki mau, cuk!'
'Siktalah, rek…! Masiyo ngomong gak nggawe 'cuk' opo'o sih…?'
' Yo gak enak, CUK…!' serempak mereka akan menjawab begini.
Saya hampir sepenuhnya berpikir dalam bahasa Indonesia dan ditimpali dengan beberapa bahasa yang saya sebutkan di atas. Bahasa Inggris jelas lebih dominan karena itu adalah bahasa yang saya pakai sehari-hari selama bertahun-tahun dulu dan sampai sekarang saya masih membaca artikel dan buku berbahasa Inggris. Seandainya bacaan saya adalah 'Penyebar Semangat' maka tentunya bahasa Jawa alusan akan banyak mengisi istilah dan ekspresi dalam tulisan saya. Nggih nopo mboten, poro sederek…?!
